At 7:00 pm every evening, our quiet suburban neighbourhood clatters with the sound of banging pots and pans (and bells and drums and trumpets!). Thank You Hour celebrates and appreciates our essential services workers who are working on the front lines during this global pandemic.
Sometimes opportunity literally knocks on your door.
At about 6:30, we had a knock on the door from Greg from GAB Films. He explained that 7 local filmmakers were in different spots on the Lower Mainland to capture this video montage of 7:00 Thank You Hour.
Some other neighbours told him we participate in the event, so he asked to capture us in action.
Our family participates in 7:00 Thank You Hour to thank the hospital employees and essential workers who are working hard to keep us safe and healthy while we are staying at home. It’s also a fun way to make some noise and get some fresh air together. We live in a new subdivision, so we’ve met many of our neighbours for the first time (social distanced of course).
When I’m feeling in a funk about not being able to go to work or be social, banging a pot brings a smile to my face.
Having our family be part of this makes us feel like we’re part of something bigger than ourselves and connected to the community around us.
My hope is that THIS is what our kids will remember when they’re looking back on these historic times.
We hear you at 7 p.m.
We are all in this together and we thank you for doing your part.
We’re deeply grateful to everyone for staying at home while we are working to help keep our communities safe.
